SCLEROTHERAPY

Apie paslaugas

Sclerotherapy is a method of treating small vein branches and capillaries with special drugs (sclerosants) that close the damaged blood vessel and thus eliminate it. This treatment method is one of the most popular for removing small blood vessels in the legs or other areas of the body. Sclerotherapy can be used as an initial method of treating varicose veins. It is important to realize that varicose veins are not just a cosmetic defect. A network of veins and capillaries that have dotted the legs can after a while cause more serious health problems, such as ulcers, thrombosis. Sclerotherapy is most effective when varicose veins are just starting to develop, small capillaries appear on the legs.

Who performs phlebectomy?

Vascular surgeon Martynas Laukaitis advises and treats vascular pathology at the Socrates Clinic. The doctor accurately diagnoses and treats vascular diseases using both classical and innovative methods.

What are the benefits of the procedure?

•  Sclerotherapy is a safe and long-established method of destroying the network of veins and capillaries.

• The functioning of the damaged vein and the progression of the disease are stopped.

•  A suitable method for repeated varicose veins or just the beginning of them, improves the aesthetic appearance of the legs.

Who is this procedure suitable for?

The procedure is performed on individuals whose leg veins are dilated and a distinct network of capillaries is visible. Sclerotherapy is most effective when varicose veins are still at an early stage, but the best and most effective treatment is chosen by the vascular doctor himself. The procedure is not performed in case of extremely advanced varicose veins.

What is the procedure?

1. Preparation for the procedure includes a consultation with a doctor, ultrasound or other examinations prescribed by the doctor himself.

2. Sclerosing drugs are injected into the damaged vein and clamped with a piece of cotton wool. Medicines cause inflammation of the vein walls. In this way, the blood vessels close, and the blood no longer flows, and the body gradually destroys the non-functioning vein.

3. After sclerotherapy, you may feel slight pain, tingling at the injection sites, redness, and bruising. These reactions usually go away quickly, after one or two days.

4. Compression therapy (elastic bandages or elastic stocking) is required for 2 weeks.

Visible result after several procedures?

The result can be seen after 1 procedure, but with a large amount of varicose veins and capillaries, 1 to 8 procedures may be required.
