Acid peeling – why should you try this procedure?

Facial peeling, in other words it is called skin scrubbing, is one of the most important skin care procedures. Exfoliation can be performed in several ways: microdermabrasion, mechanical skin cleaning, ultrasonic exfoliation and acid peeling. This is a very broad topic, so only the advantages and benefits of acid peeling are discussed in more detail.

An acid peel uses chemicals to clean your face, but don’t let the words “acids” or “chemistry” scare you. The fear of damaging your skin is very understandable, so it is first important to understand the principle of how acids work.

How do acids affect the skin?

Acids of natural origin are used during skin peeling, which improve the overall condition of the skin, remove dead cells, reduce hyperpigmentation, brighten the face and provide elasticity. Acid peeling is a procedure that reaches the deeper layers of the skin, so after it the metabolism improves and the amount of wrinkles on the face decreases. Various acids (glycolic, lactic, mandelic, citric, salicylic and others) can be used for exfoliation, the most suitable one is appointed by the beautician during the consultation.

It is important to pay attention to the fact that, if necessary, several acids can be combined with each other, but only a specialist will choose an effective and skin-friendly combination – self-cleansing or improper use of acids can have serious consequences.

Not only the acids used during the procedure differ, but also the depth of the scrub itself. Depending on the condition and sensitivity of a person’s skin, superficial, medium-depth and deep scrubbing can be applied. Before each procedure, a consultation is required, during which the specialist can inspect, assess the situation (find out what aesthetic procedures have been performed before, what medications the client uses) and determine whether his skin really needs and appropriate deep scrubbing.

Preparation of the face and the course of the procedure

As mentioned earlier, a consultation is required before the procedure, as each face requires a careful examination.

It is recommended for those who have herpes to start taking anti-herpes medication a few days before the procedure. The skin needs a separate preparation: it gradually gets used to acids by starting to use skin care products that contain them.

The procedure takes an average of 30-40 minutes and includes the following stages: Cleansing the skin to ensure complete cleanliness. An acid peeling is applied to the skin. The skin’s reaction to the acid is monitored to ensure optimal results. Peeling is cleaned with special means. The skin is soothed by covering it with a soothing or nourishing face mask. After removing the mask, a face cream is applied that corresponds to the client’s skin type. Special skin care is required not only before the procedure, but also after it. It has been noticed that after chemical peeling the skin is more sensitive and red for a while, therefore it is not recommended to use any make-up products for the first few days, only apply face cream with high SPF protection. If the procedure is performed in summer, it is extremely important to avoid direct sunlight, and it is also recommended to avoid solariums, saunas and saunas. Recommendations for further skin care are given by a beautician.

Possible complications and other information

Facial redness after the procedure is a normal and common reaction of the skin to acids.

It disappears on its own, and the duration of the redness depends on the intensity of the exfoliation. After an acid peel, the skin becomes more vulnerable, so it can be more sensitive to attacking viruses, bacteria and fungal infections. It is true that if the cosmetologist sees an increased risk of complications during the consultation, the procedure will not be prescribed to the client. Instead of acid peeling, other skin cleansing procedures can be recommended – the ever-increasing offer of them will surely allow you to choose something suitable for everyone.

Skin cleansing procedures are recommended to be performed regularly, their frequency depends on the problems to be solved or controlled. In certain cases, when a person’s skin is extremely dirty and acne-prone, several procedures can be combined, for example, applying acid peeling followed by mechanical cleaning of the skin. Acid peels are great for reducing oiliness, irritation, shrinking pores, helping to eliminate acne and treat acne. In addition to all this, various inflammatory skin processes decrease. Dry and sensitive skin stays moisturized longer, regenerates faster and more efficiently. During mechanical cleaning, the skin swells, then deep-seated acne, blackheads and comedones are removed.

At the Socrates clinic, acid peeling is performed using Greek Ameson products. The name of the Ameson range of products comes from the Greek word “amesos” (i.e. immediately), which indicates a commitment to skin care based on aesthetic medicine that offers fast results. “Ameson” is a professional system of chemical peelings based on organic acids aimed at rejuvenating the skin by giving it radiance, brightness and smoothness.
